West Des Moines

An Enticing, Growing Junction
As the largest of Des Moines’ suburbs, West Des Moines is a Central Iowa gem. The town originally sprang out of a bustling railroad town called Valley Junction, which is one of the city’s vibrant districts.

Today, West Des Moines has sprung well beyond to include Central Iowa’s largest assortment of shopping and entertainment areas, including Jordan Creek Town Center, Valley West Mall and West Glen Town Center. At the same time, the town has a robust range of housing options, from residential development and historic homes to a growing assortment of townhomes and condo units across many price points.

Because of its location adjoining Des Moines and other active suburbs, West Des Moines is home to—and close to—all of Central Iowa’s most popular attractions and is circled by a 26-mile, and growing, natural bike and walking trails.
